Shelves: romance , literature-fiction , harlequin , series-entry Id barely started this novel and I found myself detesting it. By now, Im used to romances positing that love between the main characters has to be immediate and accompanied by the usual sensations of heat, palpitations and fluids collecting between the thighs or hard-to-endure erections.

But when a woman starts getting all fired up at the sight of a stallion, thats where I draw the line. A horse? A freaking animal? Are you kidding me?! Beauty was horrified at the first sight of the Beast and Ms. Gillian Haliday is getting excited when she spots a black stallion in the desert.

Guess it must have been a long time between boyfriends for her. Matters deteriorate from there. Thanks to her insatiable…curiosity and a possible susceptibility to bad boys, she falls hard for the shapeshifting demon that puts a magical spell of compliance on her and tumbles her into bed.

Gillian is just another typical romantic dimwit. She lets her gonads and her curiosity about her long-lost mother do the talking. Even after Lord Rhys Kilpatrick admits that he used a magical version of a roofie on her, she sees a man turn into a hawk and another one shoot lightning from his fingers, she decides to go with him to meet his Dark Lord…I mean, Seth-Aziz.

This is all bad news, very bad news indeed, and any other woman with sense or a strong sense of self-preservation would demand to be released. But not Gillian. This, after only less than two days spent with the man. So what kind of man is Lord Kilpatrick? What a winner! Who would believe otherwise?

This book is a horrible tale of Stockholm Syndrome, coupled with near date-rape and sprinkled with horror for good measure. The premise is fine, the writing very good, I just hated the people. The three Haliday sisters are not afraid of mummies. Nor of silly ancient Egyptian curses. Get real. This is the twenty-first century! Besides, Historian Gillian, anthropologist Gemma, and archaeologist Josslyn Haliday spent their childhoods sharing their sleeping tent with mummies and telling each other stories of fantastic shapeshifters and vampires, as they accompanied their Egyptologist father on his The Immortal Sheikhs, book 1 Winner of the RT BookReviews Award for Best Nocturne of !

Besides, Historian Gillian, anthropologist Gemma, and archaeologist Josslyn Haliday spent their childhoods sharing their sleeping tent with mummies and telling each other stories of fantastic shapeshifters and vampires, as they accompanied their Egyptologist father on his digs…ever since the fateful day their mother mysteriously disappeared into the sands of Egypt twenty years ago.

Brave, modern women all three, it would never occur to any of them to fear the dead…or the living dead. Mortals believe the demi-god Seth Aziz is merely a myth. Rhys is one of the initiated few who know better—immortal, shapeshifter, trusted lieutenant to the five-thousand year old vampire high priest who rules the night desert from his palatial tomb deep beneath the shifting sands.

This woman he will keep for himself…
